Used on a signal that requires to be temporarily overriden to get a piece of plant to start. An example is overriding the Low Low discharge pressure trip on a pump to enable a start permissive to be received in the pump logic - the SOR is applied until the pump gets up to a pre-determined speed/discharge pressure whereupon the SOR on the trip signal is removed and the trip becomes live.
