The Landing Field Length (LFL) is an aircraft specific parameter which relates to the length required for the aircraft to land (for given climatic, elevation and braking parameters). The LFL is dependent on the relative density of the air at approach conditions. Higher altitude or higher temperature will generate less lift, and therefore require a faster approach speed and subsequently a longer LFL. Aircraft manufacturer quoted LFLs are calculated using properly trained test pilots in perfect conditions and therefore represent the optimal LFL for each aircraft category.
