Large-scale exploration and operating JV between a major oil and gas company and the (state-owned) Egyptian General Petroleum Company. Egypt's biggest oil producing business. GUPCO operates several offshore oilfields in the Gulf of Suez (GoS - N Red Sea, between the Egyptian mainland and the Sinai Peninsula), plus associated pipelines and terminals, plus a smaller operation in the Western Desert of Egypt. Headquarters in Ma'adi just South of Cairo, major operating base at Ras Shukeir on the mainland side of the GoS. Originally an Amoco business. Founded in the early 1960s, still going strong(ish).
