Definition
Gulf of Mexico (OCS) Region
A region addministered by the US Minerals Management Service (MMS). GOMR seems to be used interchangeably with Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) in the US petroleum industry. The MMS OCS (or GOMR) includes US territory in the GOM not regulated by US states. There is no bathemetric relationship between the physiographic region known as the outer continental shelf and the MMS OCS, which includes large regions of fairly shallow water. However, these two regions overlap to a large degree.
