Electrical Reliability Council of Texas

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc. (ERCOT) manages a major portion of the state's electric power grid. The corporation oversees the transactions associated with the restructured electric market and protects the overall reliability of the grid. ERCOT represents a bulk electric system located totally within the state of Texas, serves about 85% of Texas' electrical demand (approximately five million customers) and manages the operation of more than 70,000 megawatts of generation and more than 37,000 miles of transmission lines.
