Procedure that is done when taking process equipment Safety Systems off line for maintenance etc. A specific procedure must be followed to alert and record that the system is disabled and then returned to service. Also the Safety System must be confirmed (tested and verified) operational before it is assumed that it is functioning properly. Test must be signed off per procedures before it is considered active and fully operational.

This applies to automatic Safety Systems that are used for auto shutdown in emergency situations, which are used as a final shutdown during designated process upset or emergencies situations.
