Deep Draft Caison Vessel
Term used for spar type floating concept - typically by a global energy company to prevent infringement of patents on 'SPAR'. A caisson vessel is a huge metal cylinder that floats vertically in the water. Held by mooring lines, a DDCV can support enormous weight and is exceptionally stable, even in rough seas. As of 2001, there are only three DDCVs, al in Gulf of Mexico. The largest is Diana-Hoover.
