Definition

Cameron seal (elastomer)

The most frequently used elastomeric materials in Cameron products are CAMLAST and nitrile rubber (sometimes called Buna N or NBR). For special applications, Cameron also uses fluorocarbon elastomers (Viton and Fluorel). These have a higher resistance to deterioration by oxygen and ozone. Generally, nitrile elastomeric materials are more sensitive to environmental deterioration than CAMLAST or fluorocarbon elastomers. Visible signs of nitrile deterioration include hardening and surface cracking.
